ISEG's mission is the development, in its scientific areas of intervention, of advanced teaching and educational activities, of essential and applied research and of the provision of services. And, in this context, promote and participate in actions of international interexchange and cooperation. In fulfilling this mission, ISEG is governed by international reference standards, in accordance with the demands and practices of the best colleges of its kind, aimed at the production, transmission and dissemination of cutting edge scientific knowledge and professional skills. Its mission is also included in the wider mission to which the Technical University of Lisbon is committed, an institution to which ISEG belongs as a founding member. |
On its way to celebrating a century of existence, ISEG - Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão is an institution whose motto is "Leadership, Innovation and Tradition". Being the leader in its different areas of intervention, producing leaders for companies and other institutions in the economic and business environment, innovating in research and teaching methods, valorising its experience and the vast network of social relations it has built throughout its History - these are the challenges chosen by the College for itself, and the responsibilities it assumes before the community it addresses.
As is widely known, we are living through times of profound economic and social change, of global dimension and greatly felt by Portuguese society, leaving unturned no cornerstone of economic, political and social life. University teaching and research are no exception, and are faced with challenges of extreme nature, arising from international competitive pressures and the need to ensure high level technical and scientific education, recognised at the level of international standards and, simultaneously, in harmony with the specific needs for the development of this country.
As a College of economics and business studies, ISEG has particular responsibilities in this matter and must be up to its traditionally high standards, assuming a position of leadership in the current structural adaptations which will radically modify the relationship between university institutions and society and, in our own specific situation, also with the economic and business environment.
History
Founded in 1911, with 97 years, ISEG is a research-oriented institution, whose mission is to instruct capable business and economics students and to train the most skilled managers, providing each with cutting edge knowledge in the corresponding areas of interest. ISEG is one of the top prestigious and experienced business and economics schools based in Portugal, one of the three top-ranked providers in these fields of education at undergraduate, graduate and executive training levels.
ISEG distinguishes itself from its competition through a clear focus on top quality research and teaching, and through an intense relationship with the most important public and private Portuguese Institutions and Corporations as well as with the development of long-term relationships between ISEG and its alumni. Its facilities were totally renovated recently providing a top-quality and stimulating academic environment to the personal and professional development of future managers and economists.
